Questions & answers

AI receptionist for contractors: your questions, answered

How the MPS AI Front Desk works, what it costs, what callers experience, and what happens when someone needs a real person. Last updated October 2026.

If you're calling a business that uses it

Am I talking to a real person when I call a business that uses MPS AI Front Desk?

No. The MPS AI Front Desk introduces itself as a virtual assistant for the business, and the business chooses the exact wording. It answers right away so you get a response instead of voicemail, and it can transfer or escalate you to a person when the business's rules call for it.

What information will the AI Front Desk ask me for?

Typically your name, phone number, the address or area where you need service, what is going on, and how urgent it is. The business decides the exact questions, so a restoration company, a plumber, and a realtor may each ask different things.

Can I book an appointment or ask for a callback?

Yes. Depending on how the business has set up its workflow, the AI Front Desk can schedule an appointment or set up a callback, and it sends a confirmation.

What if my problem is an emergency?

The AI Front Desk can be set up with urgency rules so urgent calls are flagged and escalated or transferred to a person at the business. If anyone is in danger, such as a fire, a gas leak, or a medical emergency, call 911 first.

Can I call after hours, on weekends, or while the crew is on a job?

Yes. The AI Front Desk answers 24 hours a day, including nights, weekends, and times when the whole crew is busy on another job. Your details are captured and passed to the business.

How it works for contractors and small businesses

What is the MPS AI Front Desk?

The MPS AI Front Desk is a 24/7 AI receptionist from McAdams Project Services. It answers incoming calls and messages, gathers customer information, qualifies the request, checks service area and urgency, schedules appointments or callbacks when appropriate, logs the lead to a CRM, and escalates to a person when needed.

What is an AI receptionist for a contractor?

An AI receptionist is software that answers your business phone the way a front-desk person would: it greets the caller, asks your qualifying questions, captures their details, and books or routes the job. For a contractor it means calls that come in while you are on a roof, under a sink, or on a jobsite do not go to voicemail.

Which types of businesses is it built for?

It is built around home-service and field-service businesses: restoration, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, roofing, remodeling, cleaning, and similar trades. The same system also works for real estate agents, property managers, and other small businesses that cannot always pick up the phone.

Can the AI Front Desk be customized for my business?

Yes. It is configured around your services, service area, business hours, the questions you use to qualify a job, how appointments are scheduled, when a call should go to a person, and the experience you want customers to have.

Can I keep my existing business phone number?

In most cases, yes. Your current number can be forwarded to your AI Front Desk line, or MPS can configure whichever setup best fits how your phones work today. The options are walked through with you before anything goes live.

What happens when a customer needs a real person?

Calls and conversations can be escalated or transferred according to rules set up with you, for example for emergencies, existing customers, or anything the AI should not handle on its own.

Will my customers know they are talking to AI?

Yes. It introduces itself as a virtual assistant for your business. It is there so your customer gets an answer instead of a voicemail beep, not to pretend to be a person.

Where do the leads go after a call?

Every lead is logged to your CRM and pipeline, so a missed or after-hours call does not disappear. Higher plans add automatic follow-up with callers who did not book and re-engagement for leads that went quiet.

Pricing and plans

How much does the MPS AI Front Desk cost?

There are three month-to-month plans. Front Desk is $149 per month plus a $199 one-time setup fee. Conversion is $299 per month plus a $399 setup fee. Complete is $449 per month plus a $799 setup fee.

What is included in each plan?

Front Desk covers 24/7 AI call answering, lead capture and qualification, booking or callbacks, escalation to a person, and CRM logging. Conversion adds automated lead follow-up, re-engagement of quiet leads, conversion workflows, and Google review follow-up. Complete adds a website built for your business, website visitor tracking with outreach, an ongoing marketing system, basic local SEO, basic domain and DNS help, and two minor website edits per month. Each plan includes everything in the plan below it.

Is there a long-term contract?

No. Every plan is month-to-month and you can cancel anytime.

What is the First Five offer?

First Five is a pilot offer for early customers: the Front Desk plan for $100 per month for the first three months, with no setup fee, no automatic price increase afterward, and no obligation to continue. If the business needs a website, one is included with the pilot.

Do I need a website to use it?

No. The Front Desk plan answers your calls without a website. A website build and website visitor tracking are part of the Complete plan.

What does website visitor tracking do?

On the Complete plan, visitor tracking shows which visitors stop by your website so you can reach out to likely customers. It is set up to respect privacy and consent rules for calls, texts, and email.
